The fire department was founded in 1943 and the rescue squad was established in 1960.  The department changed to a fire protection district in 1980.  In 2000, the department instituted 24 hour staffing and began ALS coverage in 2003.  Located centrally in Boone County, Burlington has seen a great deal of growth in the last several years and the department has continued to grow and change with it.

12/21 - Burlington received a new Freightliner / Summit water tanker.

09/15 - Burlington placed a new Ford / Wheeled Coach ambulance in service with Squad 714.

06/15 - Burlington received a new Spartan ERV quint for Ladder 710.

01/12 - Burlington has placed a new Chevrolet / CET into service as Brush 717.  The Ford / Welch previously assigned to Brush 717 has been sold.
